Desmond foresees that his old flame Penny will crash land upon this island. He gets together some people to accompany him, including Charlie, Hurley and Jin, and goes somewhere into the jungle where he expects her to crash land via parachute. Desmond has also seen something very disturbing in his vision. He has seen that Charlie will die stumbling on a live wire. Still, Desmond insistently takes Charlie along. His contention is that if Charlie does not come, the vision will not come true. The situation makes Desmond think of his monastery days in Scotland a decade ago, when he abandoned his old fiancée named Ruth just a few days before their wedding was scheduled. He had met Penny later. Coming back to the present, Kate is trying to strike a romantic bond with Jack, but Jack is more interested in Juliet. Kate sleeps with Sawyer again.
